The Tallinn Christmas market has been voted the best in Europe in a poll involving 208,000 worldwide travellers, according to European Best Destinations.
“The Tallinn Christmas market delights everyone with its cosiness, historical location, wonderfully preserved medieval old buildings and long traditions,” European Best Destinations, a Brussels, Belgium-based organisation developed to promote culture and tourism in Europe, said.
“In recent years, the Tallinn Christmas market has a number of times been elected as one of the best Christmas markets in the world,” it added.
According to Maximilien Lejeune, the CEO of European Best Destinations, “this recognition has a very important mediatic and economic impact if it’s well used”.
“Most of the past awarded destinations of our competitions (Porto, Bordeaux, Zagreb, Alpe d’Huez, Val Thorens, Strasbourg) used the official logo on all their advertising, fairs, city maps, websites, buses, flyers, goodies, to spread the word about this recognition,” he said in a statement sent to Estonian World.
“Tallinn Christmas Market will be promoted during the whole year 2019 to millions of travellers on European Best Destinations. Our voting and results page is the most visited page for travellers looking for Christmas markets in Europe, it had already been shared more than half a million of time on social networks and viewed by millions of travellers,” Lejeune added.
In the past five years, Strasbourg, France, and Zagreb, Croatia, won the title of the “European Best Christmas Market” with an important economic impact (+40% of visitors for Zagreb) and more than 10 million of media coverage in international media, European Best Destinations noted.
Since 2009, European Best Destinations, in partnership with more than 300 European tourism offices and the EDEN Network, created by the European Commission, promotes culture and tourism in Europe on a travel website to an audience of millions of travellers, media and tourism professionals.
The Tallinn Christmas market will be open until 7 January 2019, daily from 10AM to 8PM (hot Christmas drinks are served from Sunday to Thursday until 10PM and Friday to Saturday until 11PM). See the detailed cultural programme for more. Father Christmas can be found at his house every day from 2 December, from 12PM to 7PM.
