The Estonian-British startup, TransferWise, has been chosen as a technology pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
The company was chosen by a jury of 68 academics, entrepreneurs and investors from hundreds of candidates. Candidates are judged based on innovation, potential innovation, viability and leadership.
“TransferWise is part of a group of entrepreneurs who are more aware of the crucial challenges of the world around them, and who are determined to do their part to solve those challenges with their company,” Fulvia Montresor, the head of technology pioneers at the World Economic Forum, said.
Taavet Hinrikus, a co-founder of TransferWise, added it was a great honour to be named as one of the technology pioneers.
TransferWise is the international money transfer platform based on peer-to-peer technology. Launched in 2011, it is one of the UK’s most successful fintech startups, having raised $91 million in funding.
