INFOGRAM: Estonia has the second best public wifi in the world

According to a new survey, based on users’ experiences, Estonia provides the second best public wifi in the world, while Lithuania has emerged as the leader.

Lithuania is the country providing the best public WiFi services, according to the survey, followed by Estonia. The two nations beat out wealthier nations such as Singapore and Switzerland. The speed and the quality of public hotspots were tested in 184 countries.

According to the survey, carried out by the UK-based tech watchdog, Rotten WiFi, Lithuania took the top spot with an average speed of 16.1 Mbps, while Estonia came second with the average download speed of 14.8 Mbps, followed by Singapore at 13.1 Mbps on average.

The US – where the internet was largely developed and where most of the world’s biggest internet companies are located – dropped out of the top 20 list.

The majority of countries in the top 20 are located in Europe, only one in North America and one in Asia. The survey also recorded clients’ satisfaction with wifi systems while travelling, and this year, the satisfaction rank in the top list is 4 or 5 out of 10.

Rotten WiFi is a public wifi and 3G/4G watchdog that enables online users to assess the quality of wifi connections and express their satisfaction about specific hotspots and internet services they receive.
