Arvo Pärt is the world’s most performed living composer fifth year running

Estonian composer Arvo Pärt has, for the fifth year running, been given the title of the “world’s most performed living composer” by the classical music event database, Bachtrack.

“Arvo Pärt continues to be the most performed contemporary concert composer, leagues ahead of John Adams and John Williams,” Bachtrack said. The top contemporary opera composer is Jonathan Dove.

Overall, Mozart took over from Beethoven as the most performed concert composer, closely followed by Bach, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Schubert.

Bachtrack calculates a series of statistics each year which show the number of times the work of each composer has been performed, along with information regarding the “hardest working” conductors, orchestras and most performed individual works.
